Burgate Exploration and Production: East Irish Sea Gas Appraisal Opportunity

pitcghBurgate Exploration and Production, on behalf of their co-venturers, is looking for partners to drill this exciting gas appraisal opportunity in the U.K. East Irish Sea that has the potential to be the largest remaining gas field in the region. Well 113/27-2, drilled in 1988, discovered the Castletown gas accumulation in Triassic sandstones but it was considered too small to develop. A new evaluation, using depth migrated 3D seismic data, has indicated that the well was drilled down flank and through a major fault and that a large gas accumulation remains to be proven up-dip. The Castletown discovery has ‘most likely’ prospective resources of approx. 250 bcf. Economics are positive for resource volumes as low as 17bcf. Well design is in an advanced stage and an appraisal well is anticipated to cost £6.5MM.

Licence P2256 and P2300: Zechstein Potential in the SNS

pros

The blocks are located within the Permian Zechstein carbonate play fairway promoted by the Oil and Gas Authority at the 2015 PROSPEX conference. Leads have been identified within the Zechstein Hauptdolomit (Z2) Formation with individual lead resources of up c. 200 bcf. The blocks also have the potential to extend the Lower Carboniferous play fairway proven in the Breagh and Crosgan Fields. Individual Carboniferous prospects in the Fell Sandstone and Scremerston Sandstone Formations have prospective resources of up to 2.5 tcf.

The lower Zechstein (Z2) Hauptdolomit carbonate play has long been successful in the Polish and German margins of the Southern Permian Basin but is woefully underexplored in the offshore UK sector, even though there have been numerous encouraging well results. Mapping on the current 2D seismic has identified 8 Hauptdolomit leads represented by carbonate build-ups with thicknesses in excess of 750ft.

Pitch your Prospect: Carnarvon Petroleum

Carnarvon Petroleum of Perth Australia is wishing to attract new country entrants to explore for oil and gas in the jackup Territory of the NW Shelf of offshore Australia. Similar fiscal regime to the UK, open file extensive 2D/3D seismic and well data allows for relatively simple evaluation of the remaining jackup prospectivity targets that are 100mmbo rec+ and/or 1TCF+ gas prospects. The NW Shelf of Australia seems akin to the North Sea of 25 years where similar datasets, fiscal regimes and prospect sizes existed. Carnarvon Petroleum has been building an exploration portfolio in the low of the current cycle and recent discoveries in a new petroleum interval of the Lower Triassic have been made at Roc and Phoenix (refer to http://carnarvon.com.au/ for press releases).

For future partnering or farmout opportunities please come by stand 18 or to the Carnarvon Petroleum talk on the inboard exploration potential of the NW Shelf of Australia at Prospex 2016.

Pitch Your Prospect: 4Gen Energy UK

4Gen Energy UK Ltd and GTO Limited announce the launch of their 28th Round farmout opportunities in Quad 30 (Blocks 30/22 and 23a) and Quad 44 (Blocks 44/7, 8, 9 and 10) following detailed prospect evaluation.

The DeLorean Complex in Blocks 30/22 and 30/32a is adjacent to Enquest’s redevelopment of the Argyll field (Alma/Galia) and is comprised of 4 prospects mapped utilizing reprocessed 3D with multiple zone objectives and a combined resource potential in excess of 100 million barrels. Impedance/amplitude studies conducted confirm a potential analogue with the adjacent Argyll (Alma) field.  An engineering firm was commissioned to design an innovative and efficient development concept which is commercially attractive at current oil prices.

In Quad 44 Blocks 44/7, 8, 9 and 10 a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of 3D seismic has highlighted the potential of significant prospective gas resource in the Draco area close to the Cygnus gas field. This potential within the Rotliegendes and the intra-Carboniferous Westphalian and Namurian on the northern margin of the Sole Pit Basin presages a regeneration of interest in this largely underexplored area.

Pitch Your Prospect: Europa Oil & Gas plc

europa

Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) plc, an AIM listed company, with prospects in two licences, FEL 2/13 and FEL 3/13 in the Porcupine Basin offshore Ireland, is seeking farmin partners.

The primary prospects are stratigraphic plays of Early Cretaceous turbidite sandstone reservoirs, charged by Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous sources and with elements of structural closure. The Cretaceous play is undrilled in the Porcupine and is analogous to the equatorial Atlantic Margin province of Jubilee and Mahogany fields.

2,565 km2 of 3D seismic was shot over FEL 2/13 and 3/13. Final processed data delivered in Q2 2014 revealed a prospect inventory by Q4 2014 from the operator Kosmos. Europa independently mapped prospects over the licenses for a CPR by ERC Equipoise on volumes and risks on FEL 3/13 only. A summary is tabulated below with gross mean un-risked Prospective Resources of 1.5 billion boe across the three prospects of Beckett, Wilde and Shaw and gross mean risked Prospective Resources of 235 million boe. Detailed work in preparation for the CPR by Europa has identified a prospect and shotpoint location for a play-opening first well in FEL 3/13.

Pitch Your Prospect: ‘Boaz’ Prospect (Block 16/8c), Azinor Catalyst

‘Boaz’ prospect is a large gas condensate Triassic tilted fault block immediately adjacent to the UK/Norwegian median line and the ‘Eirin’ field, which is currently being developed by Statoil as part of the wider ‘Gina Krog’ field development.

The primary target on the block is the Triassic Skagerrak Formation which comprises thick and well developed alluvial and braid plain deposits, proven by numerous well penetrations in the adjacent Norwegian acreage to the east. The 16/8a-10 (1988) encountered hydrocarbon in the overlying poor quality Middle Jurassic Sleipner Formation, however the well never reached the Triassic due to borehole instability issues.

New 3D Geostreamer seismic, acquired in 2013 and processed in 2014, indicates potential hydrocarbons on the structure. ‘Boaz’ has gross P50 recoverable resources of 90 MMboe with considerable opportunity for upside.  The adjacent ‘Eirin’ Triassic fault block, located 8kms to the east, was tested by Norwegian well 15/5-2 (1978) and flowed gas condensate at a restricted rates of 11 MMscfpd.

An exploration well is planned to target the Triassic sands of the ‘Boaz’ prospect to a depth of 4,600m TVDSS. The prospect is considered to be marginally HPHT.

Pitch Your Prospect: Cluff Natural Resources

Cluff Natural Resources (CNR) chose for Round 28 to focus on the resources of the pre-Westphalian section downdip from Breagh and Crosgan as it was evident that Dinantian source rocks were probable and commercial quality reservoirs of this age were already in production. Post-award work has confirmed that Dinantian sources are present on either side of the Breagh High. Namurian sourced opportunities up dip of Pegasus and Andromeda have also been identified, together with Rotliegend pinchouts along the northern margin of the Silverpit Basin, Zechstein carbonate traps above the BPU and amplitude-bearing Bunter closures. The prospectively of this previously remote region of the North Sea has been enhanced by new infrastructure and new 3D. Further enhancement is provided by modern technologies as they permit smaller and/or tighter reservoirs to be developed. Encouraging are the new awards in the area, some of which must host plays related to CNR’s opportunities.

Pitch Your Prospect: ‘Burnt Island’ Prospect (Block 16/24c), Azinor Catalyst

‘Burnt Island’ prospect is a fault-bound Middle Jurassic Hugin Formation structural closure located on the Andrew Ridge between the South Viking Graben and Fisher Bank Basin.

The block is adjacent to the UK/Norwegian median line and numerous fields and established infrastructure, in particular the Kinnoull field which BP brought on stream in December 2014.  Early seismic impedance work on new 3D Geostreamer seismic data indicates similar characteristics to that observed at the adjacent Norwegian Grevlin discovery.

There are multiple proven play types in the area. The primary prospectivity on block 16/24c comprises Jurassic tilted fault blocks with associated high quality Middle Jurassic Hugin Formation shoreface reservoir sands. Both local and more distal mature kitchen areas have been identified and de-risked through basin modelling. ‘Burnt Island’ has  gross P50 recoverable resources of 39 MMboe.

An exploration well is planned to target the Middle Jurassic Hugin Formation sands of the ‘Burnt Island’ prospect to a depth of 3,250m TVDSS.

Pitch Your Prospect: The Faroe Islands – A frontier area with potential unrevealed giants

With a total of only nine wells drilled the last 14 years large parts of the Faroes Continental Shelf are still unexplored. The risk in this extensive region is high but so is the potential reward. Many areas have big and in some places gigantic structures indicating enormous potential. Hydrocarbons have been discovered, and even though not in commercial quantities yet, they indicate an active hydrocarbon system in the region. The largest challenge is the volcanic cover of the area which complicates the process of understanding the underlying geology, but as we move forward the picture becomes clearer and earlier this year the Minister of Trade and Industry announced that the fourth licensing round for the Faroe Islands will be held in 2017. Please visit us at our booth for more information on our potential.
